Tips To Help When You Are Stressed

29 03 2010

Here are some tips on how to make yourself feel better when you’re stressed:

1. Calm down

Before anything else, calm yourself down. Don’t panic. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

2. Feed your mind with positive thoughts

When you’re depressed, it’s easy to fall into a vicious cycle of negative thoughts. It’s important that you break this cycle. To do that, feed your mind with positive thoughts. You may read spiritual texts, motivational books, or inspiring quotes. You may also listen to positive tapes.

3. Remember good things

Direct your mind to the positive. Remember the good things in your life. Remember the good people around you.

4. Look at the big picture

An event that seems bad might not seem that bad if you look at the big picture. Put the event in context.

5. Believe that everything will be all right

What you believe has a big effect on you. If you believe that things will go wrong, that would usually be the case. On the other hand, if you believe that everything will be all right, you will have a winning attitude.

6. Exercise

When you’re depressed, take time to exercise. Exercise relieves the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

7. Forgive

Sometimes one reason you feel bad is because you don’t forgive. Perhaps you had made mistakes in the past and you blamed yourself for it. You need to forgive yourself. Or perhaps someone mistreated you. You need to forgive them.

8. Take action

Things won’t get better if you just sit and do nothing. Instead of thinking about how bad things are, think of what you can do to solve the problem and take action.

9. Say something positive

Negative words have devastating effect on your confidence and motivation. So whenever you’re about to say something negative, stop yourself and take a deep breath. Reframe what you’re going to say and make it positive.

10. Think about other people

One of the best ways to make yourself feel better is simply by taking the focus away from yourself. Start thinking about other people and how you can help them. When you do that, your problems will no longer seem so hard.

Foods That Chronic Pain Sufferes Need to Avoid

Foods That Chronic Pain Sufferers Need to Avoid

Chronic pain is a pervasive issue and fibromyalgia is a very common form. It is a chronic condition whose symptoms include muscle and tissue pain, fatigue, depression, and sleep disturbances.

Recent data suggests that central sensitization, in which neurons in your spinal cord become sensitized by inflammation or cell damage, may be involved in the way fibromyalgia sufferers process pain.

Certain chemicals in the foods you eat may trigger the release of neurotransmitters that heighten this sensitivity.

Although there have been only a handful of studies on diet and fibromyalgia, the following eating rules can’t hurt, and may help, when dealing with chronic pain.

Limit Sugar as Much as Possible. Increased insulin levels will typically dramatically worsen pain. So you will want to limit all sugars and this would typically include fresh fruit juices. Whole fresh fruit is the preferred method for consuming fruit products.

If you are overweight, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes, you will also want to limit grains as much as possible as they are metabolized very similarly to sugars. This would also include organic unprocessed grains. Wheat and gluten grains are the top ones to avoid.

Eat fresh foods. Eating a diet of fresh foods, devoid of preservatives and additives, may ease symptoms triggered by coexisting conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

It’s also a good idea to buy organic food when possible, as it’s best to avoid pesticides and chemicals. However, fresh is best. So if you have to choose between local, fresh, non-organic and organic but wilting – go with fresh, and clean properly.

Avoid caffeine. Fibromyalgia is believed to be linked to an imbalance of brain chemicals that control mood, and it is often linked with inadequate sleep and fatigue. The temptation is to artificially and temporarily eliminate feelings of fatigue with stimulants like caffeine, but this approach does more harm than good in the long run. Though caffeine provides an initial boost of energy, it is no substitute for sleep, and is likely to keep you awake.

Try avoiding nightshade vegetables. Nightshade vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant may trigger arthritis and pain conditions in some people.

Be Careful with Your Fats. Animal based omega-3 fats like DHA and EPA have been touted as a heart-healthy food, and they may help with pain, as well. They can help reduce inflammation and improve brain function. At the same time, you want to eliminate all trans fat and fried foods, as these will promote inflammation.

Use yeast sparingly. Consuming yeast may also contribute to the growth of yeast fungus, which can contribute to pain.

Avoid pasteurized dairy. Many fibromyalgia sufferers have trouble digesting milk and dairy products. However, many find that raw dairy products, especially from grass fed organic sources, are well tolerated.

Cut down on carbs. About 90 percent of fibromyalgia patients have low adrenal functioning, which affects metabolism of carbohydrates and may lead to hypoglycemia.

Avoid aspartame. The artificial sweetener found in some diet sodas and many sugar-free sweets is part of a chemical group called excitotoxins, which activate neurons that can increase your sensitivity to pain.

Avoid additives. Food additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) often cause trouble for pain patients. MSG is an excitatory neurotransmitter that may stimulate pain receptors; glutamate levels in spinal fluid have been shown to correlate with pain levels in fibromyalgia patients.

Stay away from junk food. Limit or eliminate fast food, candy, and vending-machine products. In addition to contributing to weight gain and the development of unhealthy eating habits, these diet-wreckers may also irritate your muscles, disrupt your sleep, and compromise your immune system.

Bowen Session

24 03 2010

In a Bowen Technique session

the patient lies on a bed, wearing loosely fitting clothes and relaxes, even falls asleep at times. The therapist applies a carefully orchestrated series of gentle movements along the spine and at specific points throughout the body. These movements

consist of a subtle rolling of muscle, nerve, tendon and connective tissue. The therapist leaves the room between each pattern in the series so as to allow the patient the maximum space for deep

relaxation and integration of the information received.

God’s Pharmacy

This is absolutely amazing – and makes perfect sense!

A friend sent this to me. It’s been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish… all before making a human. He made and provided what we’d need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We’re such slow learners…

God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body!
God’s Pharmacy! Amazing!

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye… and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocados, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body’s cells. Today’s research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion,

Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Bowen-Gentle enough for Babies and the Elderly

20 03 2010

Bowen is effective for babies to help with colic, sleep trouble, spitting up, breathing difficulties like asthma, and calms the baby down.

I worked with one baby who spit up every time she ate and Bowen stopped the spitting up.

Another little one I worked with helped him sleep.

All protocols we do on adults can be done on baby too.

Bowen is safe for the elderly because there are no vigorous manipulations.

I worked with one elderly gentleman who was in a wheelchair who had had a stroke and a heart attack.  Especially helpful for his breathing and range of motion.

I worked with an elderly lady with degenerative hip and even the surgeon she saw was encouraged and told her to continue.  Her increased range of motion and reduced pain level astounded the surgeons.

To be able to help  babies and the elderly is very rewarding, knowing there is help encourages them.

We all want quality of life regardless of our age and condition.

My Bowen Testimony

18 03 2010

My Story:

I was born with medical challenges that got progressively worse over time and further complicated due to repeated traumas and injuries and two major brain injuries.   I have seen many specialists, tried many medications, and many therapies with little results until now.

Since having Bowen Therapy I now have a quality of life the medical profession never expected me to have.   They said I would be bed ridden.

Before Bowen I used a walker (8yrs), wore multiple braces on my joints (10yrs), fell often and dislocated daily.  I had chronic anemia(since birth), insomnia, couldn’t sleep flat and be able to breath, memory trouble, numbness and tingling, spasms, fatigue, asthma, Sjogren’s, DJD, carpul tunnel, stomach trouble, bowel trouble, osteopenia, osteoarthritis, ,neurological issues, hyper mobile lax joints(since birth), chronic pain, and a host of other labels which never got to the root of the problem. Compounding the issues by adding more and more medications that added more issues as well.

Since having Bowen I no longer wear braces or use a walker.  My legs don’t give out on me anymore and I rarely fall or dislocate my joints.  My iron is under control, my body accepts iron (never did before), and my cycle is regular and more normal (hemorrhaged before).  I sleep every night (without medication) and I can now sleep flat.  My memory has improved so much I’m doing and learning new things all the time. The numbness and tingling has improved greatly and I have more energy.  My immune system is stronger as I get sick less often.  I no longer use inhalers. I no longer need carpul tunnel braces. My stomach is improving and my bowels are regular. It turns out my broken tailbone was blocking my bowel.  I am off ALL medications for pain as the pain has reduced and only take natural magnesium.  The neurological issues are helped with the Bowen as are the spasms and jerking which rarely happen now.  My body is no longer always fighting itself.

Due to a broken collarbone that healed wrong and a surgery to fix it that further complicated things, Bowen is the only therapy I have found that helps my body relax and helps it align in a safe way allowing it to release and to heal.  The results are more than the therapists who worked on me expected and my doctors are amazed.  I am so grateful to have mobility and quality of life and I believe in Bowen so much that I have learned the Therapy myself.  I have been working with A.I.S.H. to try and get Bowen covered I believe everyone should have the right to safe effective options for their health and well being.  Bowen helped me mentally, emotionally and physically and gave me my life back.

Sincerely;  SB
